Beltane is a festival of creativity so get creative. Draw and paint, write and get your hands dirty. Finish an old project or start a new one. Ask the Goddess to flow creative energy through you and to divinely guide your creative process. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Express yourself in whatever artistic fashion you see fit.
The element of water is celebrated during Beltane. Spend some time near an ocean, spring or any other body of water. Even taking a bath or shower can be a way of honoring if a larger body of water isn’t available.
DANCE!! Maypoles are a common festival tradition but you don’t need at all. Dance, let loose and have fun.
Go out into nature to gather flowers, branches, and garlands on the morning of Beltane. Use them to decorate your home, your place of business or cars and methods of transportation. Ask the flowers and herbs to infuse your home with growth, joy, and light.
On the morning of Beltane, young maidens would wash their faces in hawthorn water while wearing branches of Rowan. Simple add hawthorn flowers or berries to water then rinse your face while asking the God and Goddess to make you more beautiful and attractive.
Solar energy is at a high point during Beltane making this a great time to do some protection magic. Do protection spells and sure up the protection of your home and personal items. You can do so by making charms, hanging protective plants, herbs and flowers, gridding with crystals and making any repairs around the house to sure up any weak areas.
Make flower crowns. For a time, milkmaids would go around the village, dressed in floral crowns and garlands to dance and spread cheer to the villagers. Channel this old tradition by making a crown of your own and dancing and singing around your family and friends.
Hold a bonfire. Fire rituals are a staple during Beltane. Gather your loved ones and build a fire on April 30th through May 1st to honor the light and solar energies.
Another fire tradition is putting out the hearth and relighting it. Most of us don’t have a hearth these days but you can do the same with your boiler light.
Leave libations and sweets out on May Eve as offerings to fox, eagle, and crow as well as guardian spirits. This was traditionally done to protect herds and farm animals but you can do this to ask for protection for your home and all those who reside there.
Make your own butter and cheese. Cows and milk are a big part of this Sabbat as cows were milked three times during the festivities. Honor this tradition by churning your own butter and making yogurt and easy cheeses like ricotta or farm cheese.
A big part of May Day is sexuality, lust, and passion. Spend some time with your partner and create a sensual environment. Dress in lingerie, light candles, eat seductive foods and of course, have lots of sex.
Have a BBQ. Large festivals were thrown on May Day and after the party was done, the ashes would be taken and spread across the lands to fertilize the crops. Have your BBQ festivities then use the ashes to fertilize your plants and gardens. NOTE** it’s best to use chemical-free charcoal or wood instead.
Get out in nature. Take a hike through the forest, a field of flowers or even just your local park. Take an offering of cake or libations for the Earth and be sure to offer your thanks to the Earth for it’s healing and renewing energy.
Do smoke and fire cleansing. Herds of cows were passed through fire in hopes to be cleansed by the smoke. Cleanse yourself and your home using incense and candles to purify your energy.
Work with Fairy magic and energy. Leave small gifts for the little people to show them you are friendly and welcome them. Go out under a tree around sunset or sunrise and sit still and patient. Wait to see if a fairy makes an appearance and if not, say a small thanks for their energy and playful spirit.
Plant herbs to use for money spells like parsley, mint, basil, dill, and marigolds.
Make charms and oils to attract a lover or to increase the passion and fun in an existing relationship.
Give offerings to Beltane deities like Aphrodite, Diana, Flora, Freya, Apollo, Bel, and Ra.
Give fresh plants, floral wreaths, and bouquets to neighbors to encourage them to beautify their homes and sacred spaces. Be sure to get a few for yourself as well.
Clean up your community or nature. Clean up trash from the beach or parks. Sweep walkways and remove worn out items.
Like Samain, The veil between worlds is at it’s thinnest point. Therefore, Beltane becomes a great time for divination and scrying. Add mugwort and dried lemon peel to your divination table or space to increase clarity.
Take a purifying sea salt bath with lavender, lemon and pine needles.
Let in some light! Open up your windows and doors or hang crystals around your house that will catch the light. This is, after all, a festival of light energy.
Decorate your house in sensual and playful fabrics, candles rose petals and other love-inspired decor.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to create a course?
